TENTATIVE PROGRAM

Welcome by the APWA Chapter President 10:00am

Program Description
This program includes two tracks. One track has two presenters covering 1) solar project and 2) Waste to energy. The second track also has two presenters covering 1) a large van pool program covering several counties throughout the State and 2) automated traffic signal management system.


ENERGY FROM THE A SUN AND FROM WASTE
Solar Projects for Public Facilities 10:00am to 10:55am
Mr. Ashu Jain and Jonathan Brown with Chevron Energy Solutions will tell us about the projects being constructed at the Kings County Government Center and City of Hanford Waste Water Treatment Plant. They will describe the solar and several other energy saving improvements and explain how the projects are funded from energy savings.

MAKING USE OF ANIMAL AND HUMAN WASTE TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY 11:00am to 11:55am
Adam Maskal with Provost and Pritchard will give an overview of several types of projects he has been involved with. Lew Nelson, Tulare City Public Works Director, will provide an overview of energy generation projects at the Tulare Waste Water Treatment Plant. He will also discuss biogas fuel cells, solar, and several other techniques including dairy manure digestion.


STATEWIDE VAN POOLING AND AN AUTOMATED TRAFFIC SIGNAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

CalVan 10:00am to 10:55am
Mr. Ron Hughes will describe the CalVans program that includes over 400 vans in 16 counties, from Imperial County on the South to Yolo County on the North. He has organized the multi-county JPA to administer and manage this endeavor, which also generates over a million dollars a year for other agencies.. .

Automated Traffic Signal Coordination 11:00am to 11:55am
Mr. Tyler, Fresno City Traffic Engineer, will discuss some of the challenges involved in developing and managing efficient operation of numerous traffic signals on a major street system. The project includes over xxx signals that must be coordinated to create the least overall delay.

Luncheon Speaker:
Mr. Mark Larsen is manager of Kaweah Delta Water Conservation District. The District manages the water emanating from the Terminus Dam that is distributed to the various irrigation districts. He will also discuss their involvement with the Army Corp of Engineers during times of flood releases.
